The BTC was founded on the 21st of April 1988, to bring together the organisations of ITF and WTF styles of TAE KWON-DO.

Each organisation within the Council is represented by democratically elected members, who in turn make up the BTC Executive and General Committees.

The BTC is recognised by UK Sports (formally the Sports Council) as the Governing Body for Tae Kwon-Do in the U.K. In fact it is the only TKD body to be recognised by UK Sports
