  Instructor

The Instructor at Peasedown St John Tae Kwon-Do is Mr David McGlennon who is a 3rd Dan Black belt.

He started training in Tae Kwon-Do in 1991 at the Bath school run by Mr Raymond Gayle, a 4th dan at the time and European champion.

Through his coloured belt career in Tae Kwon-Do he took part in many tournaments and demonstrations representing his club, area and country.

In April 1995 he took his 1st dan black belt under the TAGB Black Belt Committee at Redfield, Bristol.

In 1996 he qualified as an instructor with the TAGB and BTC and achieved his 2nd Dan. The same year he opened the Peasedown St John club. He has also qualified as a Umpire and Referee and in 2000 he achieved his 3rd Dan. In January 2003 Mr McGlennon opened a new club at Midsomer Norton. Mr McGlennon is Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked. For more info click here

Some proud moments in his teaching career have been, seeing all students passing all their gradings with NO failures. Karen Peddle becoming British Champion. Jamie Peddle and Hannah Eyles Southern Champions. The countless South-West champions Mark Holmes 2nd English Champs this year and every other student who has represented Peasedown St John in tournaments, gradings, demo's etc whether they have won or lost. Finally, all the students who have gone on to become black belts which I see as the highest honour for them and me.

During his time in Martial Arts he has trained with some world famous martial artists, from the TAGB there was his instructor Ray Gayle (European and British champion), Master Michael Dew his present Instructor who knows everything there is to know about TAGB patterns, Ron Sergiew (He's the guy who used to do a jumping kick over the car in the tv ad) and not forgetting Mike Smith and Rob Morris who now run the Bath club. From the world of martial arts there is Bill (superfoot) Wallace, karate's full contact kickboxing world champion (the best kicker I have ever trained with and a gentleman).

Willie Lim world Tae Kwon-Do champion and expert, again another gent with no ego.

Geoff Thompson and Peter Constandine two of the best men on the "real" training front.

These guy's know what real self-defence is all about after years on "the doors" of Coventry and Birmingham and I will never forget what these two fine martial artists have shown and taught me. George Dillman, pressure point expert and founder of Kyusho Jitsu and Ryukyu Kempo Karate, what can I say about this guy. He's the best by far in his field and knows how to drop a man by just using his finger, I kid you not come to class and I will show you! He knows all the real deadly reasons for performing patterns. Bruce Lee was so interested he trained with George for a time as did Muhammad Ali no less.

Leon Jay who's father Wally founded Jay Jujitsu and taught Bruce Lee, Leon will tell you how Bruce used to come around the house and train with his father in their basement. Leon is also a great martial artist who showed me the best hand shake ever.

Saving the best till last... the late great Gary Spiers, founder of applied Karate. Gary always told it and did it just like it is. Invited to train in Japan (a very rare honour to anyone who was not Japanese in those days) this big and I mean big, moarie fought his way around Japan and the world. Later on in life Gary took thing a little "easier" by becoming a body guard and minding celebrities. Always had a tale to tell, sadly missed. I still treasure that picture of the last training session in London.

I teach traditional martial arts with a modern theme. I can teach you things that don't take you 10 years to learn before you can us them effectively. If you show willing I will be there with you every step of the way.
