Tae Kwon Do
|
Tae Kwon Do means "The way of Fist and Foot Fighting". Although an ancient and once secret Korean art of weaponless self-defense, it is now a Korean sport in which either two persons practice methods of unarmed fighting or one person can exercise for both physical fitness and self defence. Still primarily a defensive art of self-protection Tae Kwon Do has in the past two decades also rapidily developed as an injury-free international competitive sport that resembles a composite of the French foot fighting known as Sevate and boxing. Technically, it is a unique style of Oriental martial arts combining Korean foot techniques with Chinese hand techniques.
The Tae Kwon Do student has through many years of tedious daily practice developed their feet and body into hidden weapons of defense. They can respons with lightening-like speed and explosive force should they be physically attacked. Tae Kwon do has been called the ultimate in self-defense becuase it trains reflexes so keen and accurate that students can effectively defend themselves from attack by multiple assaliants, yet they are also able to spar vigorously with fellow student without heavy protective garments and in complete safely.
Today Tae Kwon Do is being taught in over 160 Countries worldwide, with literally millions of practioners' making Tae Kwon Do a truly universal Martial Art.

Learning and performing patterns enables the student to become aware of their balance and generally the way in which their body moves (body mechanics) as well as improving focus and timing and gives opportunity to perfect moves without the need to worry about an opponent. Many students find that they become more supple as a result of training as a good deal of stretching is involved. They also act as a barometer in your progress in TKD. Contained in these patterns are the real martial arts moves. The secrets you will learn as a senior student are dynamic if deployed correctly!

Sparring is a normal part of the training syllabus and all students are involved. All the fights are touch contact, that is points are scored for showing an effective technique but without the need to cause any injury to the opponent. As an additional safeguard safety equipment, padded gloves, boots and head protector are worn. This makes it safe and enjoyable for junior and senior, male and female students to take part. In tournaments the competitors are split into divisions dependent upon their sex, grade and height or weight in order to make the bouts as fair as possible.

Self-Defence or as we would rather term it Self-Protection. Unlike most people would have you believe most Self-Protection is a matter of common sense combined with a few very select techniques. At PSJ we teach very simple but very effective Self-protection, techniques you can use from the very start of your training. Men and Women these techniques will work for everyone.
We believe in the "REAL" approach and do not teach techniques that take 10 years to learn and are ineffective when deployed.
Instruction includes, confrontation avoidance and management(Flight before fight), adrenaline use and management, dealing with confrontation aftermath. Addressing one or multiple attackers, incidental weapons and the LAW!
We ensure safety at all times during training with some of these techniques with the use of the "TAP" and "DAP" system.
